He is Director of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Health (CIIS) and head of the SalivaTec platform.
He graduated in Biology from the University of Aveiro in 2000, obtained a Master's degree in Cell Biology from the University of Coimbra in 2003 and a Doctorate in Health Sciences, specialising in Biomedical Sciences, from the Portuguese Catholic University in 2012.
He is an Associate Professor at the UCP Faculty of Dental Medicine (FMD) in Viseu in the areas of Biochemistry, Physiology, Biomarkers and Molecular Mechanisms and Computational Biology. At the FMD, he is also coordinator of the Master in Applied Biomedicine and President of the Pedagogical Council.
His main research interests are the identification of salivary biomarker panels through in silico studies using bioinformatics tools developed at SalivaTec and their subsequent validation using state-of-the-art know-how and technology for the identification of proteins in small sample volumes. He is also researching the integration of multi-data for Precision Dental Medicine.
