Associate Professor at the Faculty of Dental Medicine of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP) and an integrated researcher at the Interdisciplinary Health Research Center (CIIS-UCP). His academic, scientific, and pedagogical career has been strongly focused on Public Health and Community Oral Health.
He graduated in Dental Medicine from the Universidade Católica Portuguesa in 2006, completed a Master’s Degree in Dental Medicine at the Institute of Health Sciences of UCP in 2010, and obtained a Master’s Degree in Public Health from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto in the same year. In 2015, he completed his PhD in Biomedicine at the University of Beira Interior, consolidating a scientific career focused on the epidemiology of oral diseases, health promotion, health literacy, and oral health prevention.
His teaching and research activities focus on Epidemiology, Public Health, Community Oral Health, Preventive Dental Medicine, and Gerodontology. He is particularly recognized for his commitment to pedagogical innovation, the integration of active learning methodologies, and the promotion of community-based and generalist clinical models. Since 2018, he has served as Coordinator of the Integrated Master’s Degree in Dental Medicine at Universidade Católica Portuguesa and is also responsible for the academic area of Community Oral Health. Since 2023, he has additionally been a member of the Ethics Committee for Health at Universidade Católica Portuguesa.
His research activity demonstrates a consistent scientific output, with more than 70 scientific papers published and approximately 100 presentations and communications at national and international conferences. His research mainly focuses on epidemiological and preventive approaches, including the assessment of health determinants, development of community interventions, and analysis of oral health indicators in vulnerable populations.
Throughout his career, he has coordinated and participated in several community intervention and service-learning projects, particularly aimed at institutionalized older adults, children, and individuals with special needs, promoting oral health prevention, education, and empowerment strategies with an impact on reducing health inequalities.
