I am a 4th year student of the Integrated Master in Dental Medicine at the Faculty of Dental Medicine, in Viseu.
The training in our course is done in two stages, which means that it is organized in two cycles, the first corresponding to a degree in Biomedical Dental Sciences with 3 years and the second to an Integrated Master in Dentistry with two years.
The first cycle is based on a theoretical component, although the practical aspect is also quite evident. In fact, in the second year we have already developed some technical skills. In the following years, the clinical component is the most valued, being our primary objective the provision of quality healthcare, from a technical-scientific and humanitarian perspective.
Our faculty is based on numerous guiding principles, namely teaching based on research and community service. In fact, we have two fundamental platforms for our training: SalivaTec and ProHealth, which foster a motivating and productive research environment. In addition, our action with the community by the development of projects is noteworthy, such as the “Special Smiles”, which aims to provide an oral health care unit for patients with disabilities, among many others.
It is also important to highlight the family atmosphere experienced in the college corridors and the ease of communication, not only with the teachers, but also with the higher bodies that represent us.
Choosing the Faculty of Dental Medicine is opting for the production of knowledge and qualified training, providing the ability to interact and respond to the challenges of our global world. Actually, “a long journey begins with a small step” and mine started here.
