Who is it for?

Primary and secondary school students, teachers, educators, and anyone who
is curious about science and interested in finding out more about the degree courses
in  Biomedical Sciences  and the Integrated Master's Degree in Dental Medicine.

Programme and Activities

Science in practice: PCR and salivary biomarkers
An introduction to the clinical applications of biomedicine. Visitors will come into contact with the PCR technique and understand how it is used to identify salivary biomarkers, which have the potential to detect diseases early on and monitor patients' state of health.

Microbiology: the microworld revealed
With the support of experts, it will be possible to explore microbial identification techniques and understand the challenges associated with antibiotic resistance. Practical demonstrations will give you an up-close look at how to combat one of today's main public health problems.

Guided tour of Dentistry
Participants will be able to see the spaces where the next generation of dentists will be trained: the University Dental Clinic, where practice with real patients takes place, and the pre-clinic, where students train on anatomical models (the so-called ‘phantoms’) - some of which have even been customised by children in previous activities.

Clinical study models
It will also be possible to handle plaster models and understand how clinical cases are studied and planned by students and teachers at the Faculty.

Meeting Zininho
During the visit, there will be an opportunity to meet Zininho, the FMD mascot, who will welcome all visitors with a smile.

Activities adapted to different ages
The Open Day will feature presentations and content adjusted to various age levels, to ensure an engaging and educational experience for everyone.

Don't miss this opportunity to get in touch with the future of science and health. The FMD is waiting for you!
