Structural Biochemistry

5 ECTS / Semestral / Portuguese

The UC Structural Biochemistry aims to:

  1. Recognize the importance of knowledge of the main organic macromolecules for understanding biochemical events;
  2. Relate structure and function to describe the functioning of the main proteins involved in cellular communication, in the constitution of the extracellular matrix, as well as the main enzymes involved in metabolic pathways;
  3. Recognize the principles underlying the control of enzymatic catalysis as regulatory principles of metabolic pathways;
  4. Clarify at a molecular level how physiologically important enzymes function, aiming for their biomedical application both in terms of clinical diagnosis and as a therapeutic vehicle or target;
  5. Recognize the importance of proteomics, in the context of Precision Medicine.
