Pharmacology is a central area in Health, being fundamental, for example, for innovation and technological development in Health. The Curricular Unit aims to inform students about the pharmacological resources available, so that they develop the following skills:

Characterize drugs in terms of their mechanism of action, effects, indications, administration, pharmacokinetics, adverse reactions and interactions. Reason about drugs based on knowledge of physiology, in order to correlate the therapeutic effect and side effects of a drug with its mechanism of action. Identify potential targets for pharmacological intervention based on knowledge of physiological pathways and their pathological changes. Know the precepts of Evidence-Based Medicine in order to characterize and rationally evaluate medicines according to criteria of effectiveness, safety, convenience and cost. Be familiar with the main preclinical models and experimental techniques for evaluating drug efficacy and safety.
