Immunobiology

4.5 ECTS / Semestral / Portuguese

Immunobiology aims to provide the student with the knowledge/concepts necessary to understand the different types of immunity, and the cellular and molecular mechanisms that support it. The Immunobiology Curricular Unit will allow the acquisition of skills in identifying, describing, analyzing, current knowledge about: The types of immunity and the cells and respective molecules responsible for the mechanisms involved; the MHC genes and mechanisms involved in antigen presentation/recognition; the activation, cell division, differentiation and cell death of the main cell types of the immune system; new perspectives regarding the involvement of different cell populations and the signaling molecules produced as a fundamental factor for the regulation of the immune response. Provide a comprehensive and integrated view of the cellular and molecular mechanisms regulating the immune response and application of this knowledge to interpret different physiological and disease scenarios.
