The Biostatistics curricular unit has the following objectives:
Familiarize students with the objective of biostatistics in terms of data collection, compilation, analysis and interpretation;
Know important concepts of Sampling Theory with a view to its operationalization through statistical inference;
Know how to use relevant concepts from Statistical Inference; Be aware that Statistical Inference methods are characterized by a certain uncertainty (which can be quantified) associated with the determination of a statistic;
Know and know how to use the statistical decision technique.
Formulate hypotheses and evaluate them through hypothesis testing.
Know how to use the Excel spreadsheet and IBM-SPSS as a database to produce descriptive statistics and support inference and carrying out statistical tests.
