This Curricular Unit aims to provide students with skills to study changes in the basic molecular mechanisms underlying human diseases, such as inflammatory, metabolic and infectious diseases, and in other health and disease states, as well as strategies for identifying biomarkers based on this knowledge. The curricular unit will provide knowledge about biomarkers based on the understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying different phenomena as well as their application in health and disease. At the end of the course, the student should be able to use bioinformatics and systems biology strategies to speed up and optimize the identification of dynamic Biomarker networks in different contexts, as well as understand and interpret changes in biological systems evident in molecular mechanisms represented by these biomarker networks.
