Biology of Aging

2 ECTS / Semestral / Portuguese

Aging is a complex biological process in which changes at the cellular and molecular level gradually progress to a decrease in the body's ability to adequately respond to internal and/or external stimuli or aggressions. With increasing life expectancy, aging and the chronic pathologies associated with it represent the main cause of disability in so-called developed countries. The Biology of Aging discipline aims to provide in-depth knowledge about current aspects of aging at the cellular and molecular level. The discipline will address three central questions in aging: How do we age? Why do we age? What can we do to slow down aging?
