This Curricular Unit aims to help students develop their scientific communication skills, in different contexts. The UC examines scientific communication in several aspects and gives students the opportunity to train oral and written communication techniques aimed at peers and the general public. This UC focuses in particular on medical and natural sciences. It is intended that students recognize: research methods; the importance of the validity of the results (statistical concepts and “fake news”); peer review; fundamental and applied research; the scientist's responsibilities in the scientific process; its role in communicating Science. It is also intended that students understand the way in which scientific knowledge progresses and the constraints to which it is subject. Additionally, they must recognize the different journalistic genres in the specific area of scientific journalism, and be able to produce texts with publication quality in national newspapers/news websites. It is also intended that students are able to identify the diversity of mechanisms and interactions between science and society: means and channels of dissemination, forms of dissemination (scientific literature, scientific dissemination).
