Doutorada em Biologia pela Universidade de Aveiro em 2005, com o estudo dos mecanismos moleculares envolvidos na evolução de uma alteração do código genético.
Foi Investigadora Auxiliar do grupo de Genética Populacional do IPATIMUP (2008-2013), onde começou a trabalhar na dinâmica da rede metabólica de NAD e seus papéis na saúde e na doença. Estas enzimas foram implicadas no envelhecimento, infeção e são o alvo de uma nova classe de drogas anti-tumorais.
Foi Professora Auxiliar Convidada do Departamento de Ciências Médicas, e investigadora no grupo de Bioinformática do IEETA e no iBiMED, Universidade de Aveiro (2013-2019). Desenvolveu ferramentas bioinformáticas para detetar rearranjos do genoma e assinaturas de agentes patogénicos, com implicações no diagnóstico e terapêutica. Em colaboração, participa em linhas de investigação sobre os mecanismos de resistência a antifúngicos em isolados clínicos, e em métodos computacionais para prever o impacto de mutações.
Atualmente é Professora Auxiliar na Faculdade de Medicina Dentária da Universidade Católica Portuguesa e investigadora no CIIS (Centro de Investigação Interdisciplinar em Saúde), na plataforma SalivaTec, focada na pesquisa de biomarcadores e diagnóstico em saliva.
