“Gustavo Fernandes did his Ph.D. in Dentistry (2012-2016, Brazil) with the development of a biomimetic surface for dental implants to accelerate osseointegration, with blood/platelet concentrates coating it; for this project he obtained a GRANT for Scientific Innovation from Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa no Estado do Rio de Janeiro (FAPERJ, Brazil). His Master's in Medical Sciences (2009-2011, Brazil) focused on cellular behavior facing biomaterial surface and the evaluation of the molecular response; his Master's in Dentistry (2017-2018, Portugal) aimed blood/platelet concentrate analysis in clinical applications.
Graduated in Dentistry in 2008; Expert in Implantology (Brazil, 2 years) and in Periodontology (Brazil, 1 year; Post-graduated in “Advanced Implant Dentistry - Mini Residence” - University of Florida (USA).
As a professional experience, it is highlighted the performance in private practice (RJ, Brazil) since 2008; and from 2018, in Portugal. Moreover, he is 1st Lieutenant-Dentist of the Brazilian Army, with practice in Implantology and surgical field (2012-2018).
He received the Fellow ITI in 2019; he is an effective member of SBPqO (Brazil); a member of GEACoP, a Titular member of the Brazilian Academy of Dentistry (AcBO), a member of Minerva Médica (Italy), and IADR.
He was professor and chair of Periodontology at Universidade Salgado de Oliveira (2012 - 07/2018) and is currently Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Dental Medicine of Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Periodontology, Biomaterials, Dental Biomaterials, Implantology and Regenerative Medicine and Biotechnology (09/2018 - current).
Researcher at the Interdisciplinary Health Research Center (CIIS) and Salivatec, with researches involving bone grafting, tissue repair, bone biology, biomaterial testing, image analysis (histomorphometry and stereology), stem cells, lasers, blood concentrates/platelets, dental implants, components and oral rehabilitation and systematic reviews and meta-analysis. ”
